Short Course Description

General definitions of carbohydrates, chirality of sugars (D-L sugars), anomers and epimeres, major families of carbohydrates, the anomeric effect, conformations of the sugar ring (furanosides and pyranosides), protecting groups manipulations in carbohydrate chemistry, reactions at the anomeric center (glycosylation reactions and methods), strategies and examples of the synthesis of oligosaccharides
