Short Course Description

The course will introduce the students to the various ways plants communicate with their environment. The course will elaborate on signaling, communication, senses and reactions of plants to other plants or other organisms in their environment, in an evolutionary approach. The major subjects of the course include: a) plant-mutualist communications, including communications with pollinators and seed/fruit dispersing animals; b) plant-antagonist communications, including communication between plants and herbivores or; c) plant-plant communications, including communication among kin and non-kin plants, cooperation and warning. The course materials will combine theoretical and empirical literature, mostly based on recent studies of this emerging new discipline.
