Short Course Description

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the principles of heritability at the molecular and organismal levels, gene function and regulation. Studies of model organisms and human genetics will be covered.

The course will cover: Mendel?s Laws of Heredity, the genetic code, DNA damage and repair, gene regulation in development, gene manipulation techniques, introduction to population genetics, environmental impact on gene expression, gene interactions, alleles and mutations. We will introduce recent findings from genetics of cancer and genetics of the immune system, gene and genome evolution, the genomic revolution and its impact.
