Short Course Description

The integrative course "metabolism: physiology and pathology" is given by researchers and physicians working at diverse fields, with the goal of exposing the students to the utmost updated discoveries in the topics related to metabolism. The discussion levels in the course start from the organismic ? evolutionary and ecological aspects of metabolism, and go through physiology and medicine to the molecular level ? how lipids are formed and degraded. In this course we will learn about the relationships between obesity and metabolic diseases such as diabetes and atherosclerosis, how the metabolism and metabolic diseases are affected by the biological clock, on the metabolic changes in cancer cells and inflammatory cells and on the relationships between metabolism and neurodegenerative diseases.
