Short Course Description

The course covers topics related to bacterial pathogenesis systems and the ways by which bacteria manipulate their host cells. The course introduces approaches by which bacterial pathogenesis systems are being studied and the ways by which these system operate. The course focuses on human bacterial pathogens such as: Yersinia, Salmonella, Legionella, Listeria and others. The ways by which the pathogenesis systems of these bacteria function are described in detail. In addition, methodologies used to identify virulence genes such as in-vivo expression technology (IVET), signature tagged mutagenesis (STM) and others are described as well as the used of whole genome sequencing to identify pathogenesis related genes.
