Course description:
This course - entitled "Chapters in Biotechnology", begins with a series of lectures providing introduction to the stages and factors involved in the process of "from the bench to the market" of a biotechnological product/technology. Introduction is also provided to the process of researching a biotechnological process or product and preparing it for presentation as a 45 minutes seminar lecture, including not only the scientific and technological aspects but also the financial and economical considerations.
This introduction is followed by a series of presentations by student teams (3-4 / team) providing status reports on products and technologies from the fields of modern Biotechnology, covering (but not limited to) biocatalysis, microbial production of food additives and pharmaceuticals, AgBiotech, mammalian cells culture, Tissue engineering, and environmental services.
Course methodology:

Lectures by students (in groups of 4)
Evaluation:
Final Exam- 30%
Students presentations- 70% Note that the grade is dependent primarily on the way the lecture is presented!
