Short Course Description

Lattice and reciprocal lattice, Brilouin zones, Bloch Theorem, Bloch electrons. Semi-empirical pseudopotentials, Tight-binding theory, K*P theory. The semi-classical model for electron movement, effective mass, band structure and bound electrons. Electrical and thermal conduction. Surface properties, 2D and 1D materials. Lattice vibrations ? Phonons. The Quasi-Harmonic approximation for thermal properties. Elastic properties of materials. Magnetic materials and metal-oxide materials. Modern theories of electronic structure in materials.
