Short Course Description

Credit points: 3.5

Prerequisites: Harmonic Analysis, Partial Differential Equation, Thermodynamics (1), Fluid mechanics (1)

Introduction to conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer.

Conduction: Fourier's law. One-dimensional problems in steady state. Heat exchanges. The general Heat Transfer equation and techniques for solution. Fins. Multi-dimensional problems in conduction. Transient problems.

Convection: The governing equations. Dimensional analysis. Similarity analysis. Flow in channels. Flow over external surfaces. Free convection.

Radiation: Basic laws of radiation. View factors. Heat transfer between black and grey surfaces.
