Short Course Description

This Course will be taught in English.

The aim of this course is to supply basic tools to understand some of the main concepts in materials science and engineering.

The topics will include: introduction to materials; the structure of the atom; interatomic bonding in solids; the structure of crystals; crystallographic points, directions, and planes; x-ray diffraction; imperfections in solids; diffusion; phase diagrams; mechanical properties of solids; and nucleation and growth.

Students will be evaluated in an exam at the end of the course. Attendance to the lectures is not compulsory, but bonus points will be given for attending on Campus.
