Short Course Description
This seminar will look at the various ways that historians and museums have used collective memory to shape a particular Jewish heritage and communal tradition over the past hundred years.
In addition to looking at the pivotal role played by historians like Simon Dubnov and Ben Zion Dinur, we will also look at the central role played by museums and monuments in Europe, Israel and the United States.
All of these points will highlight the tension between history and memory as well as the role that various actors and institutions play in creating sites of Jewish heritage and collective memory.
