Short Course Description

Intelligence organizations dealing with the Middle East have been challenged, over the last several years, by a complex and rapidly changing environment, which in the opinion of many, can only be defined as unprecedented. The course " Intelligence in Today's World" focuses on the essence of intelligence, its part in the decision-making process and the way it copes with the changes in the strategic and operational environment. The course will deal with existing definitions of intelligence, the different approaches to intelligence, the relations of the intelligence with decision makers, the phenomena of surprise, the analysis methodology, and the role of intelligence in war (and in other types of conflict). In addition, the course will examine the implications of the information revolution, the development of the cyber dimension and the post-truth era on intelligence. Special emphasis will be placed on analyzing the failure of Israeli intelligence in the lead-up to Hamas's surprise attack on October 7, 2023.
