Short Course Description

This English language course discusses some main issues arising from the nexus between post-1980 globalization processes and the world of labor. The course begins by acquainting the students with some main aspects and derivatives of economic globalization including the globalization of trade and finance, the neoliberal turn, multinational corporations, supply and value chains, international trade agreements, and global governance. It proceeds to examine the implications of the above on the global division of labor, the emergence of new forms of work and employment, labor migration across borders, the adaptation of organized labor within and between nations, and trends in labor rights and conditions. Students are required to attend in classes, submit two short papers throughout the course, and take a final exam.
