Short Course Description

The Lab course in Physiology and Neurobiology is intended to provide a student with an in-depth understanding of selected physiological processes and to acquire experimental skills, by collecting and processing an experimental data using advanced research equipment. During the course, students will measure physiological parameters of neural conduction in a peripheral nerve, rhythmic activity in a ganglion of a crayfish, investigate passive properties of a biological membrane (using electrical models of a nerve cell), elicit long-term potential (LTP) in hippocampal slices and record the electrical activity of the brain (electroencephalogram, EEG), while learning to process data using MATLAB.

Target population: As part of compulsory courses for undergraduate students, third year.

Prerequisite: Animal physiology or introduction to neurobiology combined with physiology of systems, including the nervous system, and a preliminary course in MATLAB.
