Short Course Description

This graduate course is focused on structure and function of bio-membranes and the membrane-associated proteins. It will cover the basic principle of phospholipids self-assembly into the double-layer, internalization of the bio-membrane to inorganic ions, small organic and large protein molecules, functioning of enzymes associated with membranes of organelles including mitochondria, ER, Golgi and endosomes) and cellular membranes.
Biological, chemical and physical mechanisms of membrane bending, fission and fusion will be discussed.
All participating students will deliver lectures based on the analysis of reviews and original papers and will critically discuss issues related to the experiments presented in the papers in the class.
