Short Course Description

Introduction to Plant Molecular Biology
Guido Sessa, Shaul Yalovsky and Eilon Shani

Lectures: 26 lectures (2h each)

Grade: Final exam (50 multiple choice questions).

Prerequisites courses:
* Genetics (0455.2526), second year first semester
* Biochemistry A (0455.2548), second year first semester

Course objective: Introduce basic principles of plant molecular biology and the major challenges of plant research in the 21st century for the benefit of human kind and environmental preservation. Lectures will cover topics as: plant development (mersistems, flowering, roots and leaves), plant hormones, plant response to the environment including biotic and pathogen stresses, cell biology, organelles biogenesis plant cell trafficking, receptors, light response and more. The course will focus on the genetic, biochemical and molecular mechanisms in plant biology. Modern research approaches in plant sciences such as genomics, proteomics, CRISPR-mediated genome editing confocal, atomic force and super resolution microscopy will be introduced.
